759 Martin Street Row Houses
Project architect: Pablo Meninato
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Program: two single family houses
Area: 1,200 sq.ft. each unit
The row house is Philadelphia’s most persistent typology. Its main features have remained virtually unchanged for more than 150 years, probably the standard’s lot width -15 or 16 feet- accentuates the persistence of the type.
However, each generation of architects and users tend to develop their own interpretation of the type. New technologies, uses and socializing patterns will invariably affect the design of the new row house instance.
The twin Martin St row houses attempt to incorporate all aspects of modern life (technological, spatial) into a traditional type. The result is both familiar and new, traditional and novel.
